Protection of the interests of nationals

Especially where nationals are absent (not present), minors, or incapacitated persons.

Such protection is exercised in particular with regard to successions occurring within the consular district that involve a national who has died intestate (ab intestato), or where the heirs are absent, minors, or incapacitated.

Protection may be exercised through acts of voluntary jurisdiction.

Assistance to heirs is provided through:

• affixing and/or removal of seals
• preparation of the inventory
• sale of property by auction
• deposit of property or valuables in a safe place
• administration and settlement of the testamentary succession
