Article 230 of the 1866 Consular Regulations provides that every application submitted to the consul giving rise to proceedings be recorded in a special register by the chancellery officer.
This column-based register was to contain:

  • name, surname and residence of the applicant
  • name, surname and residence of the opposing party
  • subject or nature of the application or act - date of submission
  • supporting documents submitted - measures issued by the consul
  • date and method of notification
  • subsequent measures resulting from the application Civil case files could be located using this repertory, compiled in the forms prescribed by the Consular Regulations.

Today this register, covering the years 1883–1909, constitutes for this part of the archive a true archival inventory enriched with highly specific and detailed information.
