The Royal Consulate in Cairo was established in 1860 (Royal Decree of 11 August 1860). Until then, the consular office of the Kingdom of Sardinia in Cairo was a consular delegation dependent on the Consulate General in Alexandria, Egypt.

The following individuals served as consuls in Cairo

• Licurgo Macciò, acting vice-consul, then consul, from 1863 (1861-1866), appointed on 11 August 1860
• Lorenzo Vignale, vice-consul with credentials as consul, then consul from 1867 (1866-1868), appointed on 11 March 1866
• Domenico Brunenghi, vice-consul with credentials as consul, then consul from 1870 (1868-1873), appointed on 10 August 1868
• Giulio Malmusi, vice-consul with credentials as consul (1874-1876), appointed on 8 June 1874
• Ferdinando De Goyzueta, vice-consul acting as consul (1877-1879), appointed on 1 March 1877
• Gaspare Michele Gloria, vice-consul with credentials as consul (1880-1882), appointed on 22 July 1880
• Pietro Perolari Malmignati, Vice-Consul acting as Consul (1882-1883), appointed on 5 October 1882
• Giovanni Venanzi, Vice-Consul with credentials as consul (1883-1885), appointed on 10 June 1883
• Cesare Romano, vice-consul with consular licence (1885-1888), appointed on 22 March 1885

Provisions

• Royal Decree of 11 August 1860. Establishment of the Consulate in Cairo

• Royal Decree No. 3687 of 13 February 1877. Abolition of the Consulate in Cairo. Its jurisdiction is merged with that of Alexandria

• Royal Decree no. 5565 of 22 July 1880. Establishment of a Consulate in Cairo with jurisdiction in the provinces of Galiubieh, Menoufich and Ghiseh, in those of Upper Egypt and in the Egyptian territories in the interior of Africa. The jurisdiction of the Consulate in Alexandria, Egypt, remains consequently limited to the provinces of Lower Egypt, with the exception of those of Galiubieh, Menoufich and Ghiseh, the Egyptian coast of the Red Sea and the province of Djeddah

• Royal Decree no. 6262 of 14 July 1889. It is ordered that the Agent and Consul General in Egypt also perform the functions of Royal Consul in Cairo. In fact, the Consulate in Cairo is abolished.

• Royal Decree no. 415 of 28 June 1891. Establishment of a Consulate in Cairo.

• Royal Decree no. 77 of 10 March 1895. Consular functions in Cairo shall be performed by the Royal Agent and Consul General

• Royal Decree no. 376 of 23 July 1896. Article 3, paragraph 1 repeals Royal Decree no. 77 of 10 March 1895.

• Royal Decree no. 151 of 21 January 1923. Abolition of the Royal Consulate in Cairo.

• Royal Decree no. 1220 of 17 May 1923. Establishment of a second-class royal consulate at the residence in Cairo

• Royal Decree No. 1570 of 6 August 1926. A first-class royal consulate is established in Cairo, replacing the second-class royal consulate that has been abolished.

Presidential Decree of 29 June 1978. Abolition of the first-class consulate general in Cairo (Arab Republic of Egypt) and establishment of a consular chancellery in the same location.
