Scope and content
References to attachments to civil status acts are found in Article 34 of the Consular Law of 28 January 1866 no. 2804, which notes the need to preserve in the consulate’s archives the register of banns and the submitted attachments.
Of the extensive documentary corpus envisaged by the law, the attachments to marriage records are preserved: documentation that had to be produced prior to contracting marriage (birth extracts; documents proving parental consent to marriage; banns/publication acts; documents attesting the free status of the spouses).
The documentation is organised by year and subdivided by name.
